Community Music

I have been running community choirs with Living Lively for 3 years.  I also run the Singing for Mental Health Community Choir at Revival in Whitstable.

Sing from the Heart is a collaborative song project I organised in 2024 where I encouraged my therapeutic singing groups to contribute their ideas for a song extolling the joys of amateur group singing. The project was captured in a mini-documentary showing the creation process and interactive performance. It was released alongside a single and music video in April 2025 and can be viewed and streamed here (as well as all the usual places).

We had a screening party at the Palace Cinema, Broadstairs, for all those involved, to celebrate the launch.

The first iteration of Sing from the Heart was such a rip-roaring success that we will be doing it all again this year.

Sing from the Heart

Sing from the Heart is a collaborative, intergenerational, and mixed-ability community music project that celebrates the power of group singing. I invited participants from the therapeutic singing groups I run through Music 4 Wellbeing to contribute lyrical ideas for a song that highlights the joy and connection found in amateur singing.

The final track features over 200 voices, ranging in age from 9 to 90! Among the many voices are year 6 students from Ramsgate Arts Primary School, the Seaside Singers Dementia Singing Group from Margate, and the WEB Young Adults with additional needs singing group from the Gap Project at Queens Road Baptist Church in Broadstairs.

In November 2024 the song was performed in an interactive event at QRBC, where the audience sat with the participants in a circle and joined in the performance. This unique setup helped create a shared, communal experience. The performance was captured on film and serves as the music video for the single's release. In addition, a mini-documentary was created, showcasing the therapeutic singing groups, the song's creation process, and rehearsals.

Sing from the Heart Mini Doc + Music Vid

This film documents the Sing from the Heart community music project. The documentary segment was filmed and edited by Rosie Carr. The music video at the end was filmed and edited by Chris Wade. The outset of the film functions as an exposé for the therapeutic music workshops I run with Music 4 Wellbeing. It will give the viewer an idea of the mental and physical benefits of these singing groups for their participants. I then introduce the collaborative song project with comments from some of those who took part, and some clips from the rehearsals and group recording sessions. Finally you can see footage from the interactive performance at Queens Road Baptist Church which functions as the music video for the finished recording. I hope you enjoy!!
